KIRCHLSTEIN OR BROTZEITFELSEN   1,600m (5,249 ft.)

From here to Engalm, before slowly on the left along the Almöden in the direction of the Panorama trail (power plant house on the left), then steer right and cross the creek.
Walk uphill on the right of the creek until you reach a visible steep track, then through alm roses and mountain pines to the small church; approx. 2.5 hrs, 400 m (1,312 ft.) difference in altitude - the view alone from the Kirchlstein is a dream come true….


ENGER GRUND – TALSCHLUSS

walk comfortable through the alm village keeping to the left past benches for resting, over the bridge spanning the Enger Grundbach, a narrow steep track takes you to the Engergrund, far left is a hidden, romantic waterfall;
you can walk anywhere across the alm meadows with the gigantic Grubenkar rock face (2,660 m (8,727 ft.)) as a backdrop,
which leaves a strong impression; go back the same route, approx. 2 – 2.5 hrs comfortably…


Hike to BINSALM  1,500m (4,921 ft.)> BINSHOCHLEGER > DRIAGGEN (4 hrs)


A special tour where you shouldn't miss a stop at the Binsalm since the landlord always gets the vibes going. Fit hikers can continue via
Binshochleger, -Panoramasteig, -Driaggen– magnificent overview over the entire Eng valley and the largest European nature reserve in Tyrol.


KARLALM :  1,180m (3,871 ft.)

Take the hiking bus to parking lot no. 7, cross the small bridge  (Rissbach)
Follow the winding logging road up to the Karlalm, you'll see before you a small green kettle with two alms. If you continue up on the left to the Marterl,
you have a fantastic view into the Laliderertal valley with the commanding rock faces – approx. 2.5 hrs, difference in altitude negligible….

ROHNTAL – ROHNTALALM  1,262m (4,140 ft.)

We'll drive to Hinterriss (928 m (3,045 ft.)) right next to the information center Karwendel
(a visit is well worth-while and free), park, and then hike comfortable to the Rohntalalm, approx. 1.5 hrs. If you haven't had enough, you can continue to the


RAPPENKLAMMSPITZE :  1,835m (6,020 ft)

To the left across the almost dry creek bed, past the hunting lodge towards the Hochalpkopf (1,770m (5,807 ft.)) or Rohnberg (1,771m (5,810 ft.)), these are two smooth green alm mountain pastures with a great
view, or you go left to the Rappenspitze (also called Rappenklammspitze), but you must be sure-footed. Hiking time from Hinterriss approx. 3 hrs, 910m (2,986 ft.) difference in altitude.

 

 

FALKENHÜTTE (lodge): 1,848m (6,063 ft.)

Either directly via Hohljoch (1,974m (6,476 ft.)) on the foot of the Laliderer rock faces to the Falkenhütte; hiking time approx. 3 hrs – 758m (2,487 ft.) difference in altitude – easy to medium.

Or via the Laliderertal valley, with a view of the up to 2,600 m (8,530 ft.) high Laliderer rock faces, turn right up the steep incline at Lalidersniederleger (1,526 m (5,007 ft.)) to
Ladizköpfl (if you have endurance, you can turn right in the middle of the incline to the 2,094 m (6,870 ft.) high Mahnkopf - wonderful view over the Karwendel - then comfortably to the, return as above….
We take the hiking bus to the Laliderertal valley (saves 2 hrs) – else entire hiking time including Mahnkopf 5.5 hrs - approx. 850m (2,789 ft.) difference in altitude, hiking time approx. 3.5 hrs.

KARWENDELHAUS : 1,771m (5,810 ft.)

There are two alternatives: from the ENG (1,216m (3,990 ft.)) via Hohljoch (1,974m (6,476 ft.)) along the foot of the Laliderer rock faces to the Falkenhütte; here you can also turn left in the direction of the Kleiner Ahornboden (1,399m (4,590 ft.)) to the Hochalmsattel (1,803m (5,915 ft.)) to the Karwendelhaus, approx. 750m (2,461 ft.) difference in altitude, hiking time approx. 6 hrs

To the Karwendelhaus through the Johannestal valley (12 km (7.5 mi.) long) to the Kleiner Ahornboden, Hochalmsattel (1,803m (5,915 ft.)) to the Karwendelhaus; this is the longer alternative with slightly smaller difference in altitude but approx. 7 hrs walking time – when we do this as a guided hike, we take the hiking bus to the Kleiner Ahornboden shortening the tour considerably….



BIRKKARSPITZE 2,749m (9,019 ft.) – highest mountain of the Karwendel, only if you're sure-footed and don't suffer from vertigo.

We take the hiking bus through the Johannestal valley to the Kleiner Ahornboden (1,399m (4,590 ft.)); from there we'll hike to the Hochalmsattl, (1,803m (5,915 ft.)) to the Karwendelhaus, steeply uphill on the left – then to a fork (easier tour to the Hochalmkreuz (2,192 m (7,192)) or straight ahead to Schlauch-Birkkar (bivouac hut) to the peak (2,749m (9,019 ft.)), there is a steel wire rope for the last 100m/yards in altitude, then back to the bivouac hut – from here you can do a great tour back but only if you really have the endurance: via the Östliche - Mittlere- Westliche (Eastern - Middle - Western) Ödkarspitzen (2,745m (9,006 ft.)), via the Brendelsteig back to the Karwendelhaus, 1,350m (4,429 ft.) difference in altitude - takes all day!

 

 

Gamsjoch  :  2,452m (4,429 ft.)

 

Across from the Alpengasthof Eng hike up the steep long gorge; you'll pass at least three natural springs before reaching the Gumpenjöchl (1,974m (6,476 ft.)), take the marked natural incline on the right to the Gamsjoch, 1,236m (4,055 ft.) difference in altitude, hiking time approx. 3.5 hrs, many, many chamois, some Alpine ibexes, marmots, from the middle of July to the end of August the Edelweiss is in bloom, a tour for enjoyment, view to the Rofan, Zillertaler, Zugspitz massif etc.. ….. return via Gumpenjöchl, Lalidersalm, Hochleger, past the Hohljoch (1,974m (6,476 ft.)) and then wildly across the Enger Grund to the Alpengasthof ENG – a day trip; bring a feeling for nature and plenty of energy along…. Approx 6 hours hiking time

 

 

Lazy E N G: 

 

rustic, romantic, medium, mysterious hike from the Großer Ahornboden (1,120m (3,675 ft.)) between Gramaikar and Barenwandkopf on your right, over mossy ground and an old mule incline up to the lazy Eng (faule Eng), between Sonnjoch ascent and Gramaijoch (2,017m (6,618 ft.)), many green meadows with small ponds, marmots and chamois - here you can either go right down to the Gramaihochleger (1,756m (5,761 ft.)), or up to the Gramaijoch (2,017m (6,618 ft.)), then on to the Steinblümelkopf (2,010m (6,595 ft.)), a pretty grassy mountain with a view of the Großer Ahornboden etc., then to the Binssattel (1,993 (6,539 ft.)), down to the Binshochleger, Binsalm (1,503m (4,931 ft.)) to the ENG; it's not the difference in altitude that matters (almost 900m (2,953 ft.) difference in altitude) here, just enjoy nature and the scenery of stones, forest, meadow, small lakes etc. - a day hike!

Hikes around Hinterriss

 

 

LAMSENJOCHHÜTTE (lodge): 1,953m (6,408 ft.)

Via the Panorama trail, Drijaggenalm above the Binshochleger, via the three wild grassy hills to the Lack, then in the direction of Lamsenkar to the western Lamsenjoch (1,940m (6,365 ft.), continue right to the Lamsenjochhütte, where we'll rest. We return to the Lamsenjoch via Hahnkampl (2,080m (6,842 ft.)  (sure-footedness necessary), back to Bins-Gramaisattel (1,903m (6,243 ft.)), down to Binshochleger (1,645m (5,397 ft.)) to the Binsalm (1,502m (4,928 ft)), slightly demanding endurance day trip, difference in altitude  764m (2,507 ft.)



LAMSENSPITZE  : 2,508m (8,228 ft.) only if you're sure-footed and don't suffer from vertigo

From the Alpengasthof  ENG go left after the bridge taking the shortcut to the Binsalm, continue to Binshochleger, Lamsenjoch  - as above – to Lamsenjochhütte, then go right at the fork to Bruder tunnel – newly secured incline through the tunnel to the Lamsscharte up to the Lamsenspitze . 1,292m (4,239 ft.) difference in altitude. Return via Lamsenscharte to Lamsenjochütte and the ENG.



LAMSENJOCHHÜTTE (lodge): 1,953m (6,408 ft.) -  SCHAFJÖCHL (2,157m (7,077 ft.))

The same tour to the Lamsenjochhütte, from the lodge go left up to the Schafjöchl; this is a nice trip if hiking to the lodge isn't enough for you, you have a great view… 941m (3,087 ft.) difference in altitude   - Hiking time one way approx. 3.5 hrs



SONNJOCH :  2,457m (8,061 ft.)

Best as a round trip. We take the hiking bus to Pertisau, direction Gramai, before the last cattle grid go right up via the Bärenlahner to the Bärenlahnersattel (1,994m (6,542 ft.)), a great view to the Großer Ahornboden and the Karwendel mountains, this is where the Alpine ibex lives; after a short break we continue on the left up to the Sonnjoch, medium varied tour, endurance is an advantage; then we go down to Gramai Hochleger (1,756m (5,761 ft.)),  either via the Binssattel – Binsalm to the ENG or, if you can't get enough, down the lazy ENG … 1,245m (4,085 ft.) demanding difference in altitude, day tour that will make an impression.



PLUMSJOCHHÜTTE (1,630m (5,348 ft.))

We take the hiking bus to the Hagelhütte (1,077m (3,534 ft.)), cross the Risstalbach bridge, after approx. 500m/yards go right up an incline to the Plumsalm (1,423m (4,669f t.) (Niederleger)), up an incline to the left (on the right the bicycle path) up to the Plumsjochhütte – Hiking time approx. 2 hrs. Now we have several options:


MONDSCHEINSPITZE (2,106m (6,910 ft.))

From the Plumsjochhütte up to the Plumsjoch (1,821m (5,974 ft.)), slightly down to the Mondscheinsenke and then steeply up to the peak from the Plumsjochütte aus. Hiking time approx. 1.5 hrs with 476m (1,562 ft.) difference in altitude….      If you are well-versed, sure-footed and have endurance, take the hiking bus to Pertisau – into the Gerntal valley, after the Pletzachalm steeply up to the Schleimsattel, left to Kelberg until you reach the Mondscheinspitze; 922m (3,025 ft.) difference in altitude very attractive as a round trip since we can then go via the Plumsjoch to the Eng - a day trip.

KOMPAR (2,011m (6,598 ft.))

From the Hagelhütten (hail huts) (parking lot 8) (1,077m (3,534 ft.))  over the bridge to the Hasental Alm – easy to medium – (1,563m (5,128 ft.)) (wonderful view to the Großer Ahornboden) Hochleger – look out, marmots! – to the fork - Satteljoch, but then we go left up to the Kompar, 934m (3,064 ft.) difference in altitude  - then back to thejunction Satteljoch, here we can go right along the grass mountain crest to the Plumssattel – down to the Plumsjoch and continue on the trail – Plumsalm – then on the logging road to the fork to the hail hut where we go down the small incline to the hail hut – approx. 6 hrs. – 934m (3,064 ft.) difference in altitude, a beautiful day trip


GRASBERG JOCH  (2,020m (6,627 ft.)) M  - HÖLZELSTALJOCH (2,012m (6,601 ft.)) – FLEISCHBANK (2,026m (6,647))

Starting point via Karlalm (1,180m (3,871 ft.)), the incline to the Grasbergalm (1,540m (5,052 ft.)), left past the Grasbergsattel (marmots live here) to the grass mountain, left up the incline to the Hölzelstaljoch (2,012m (6,601 ft.)) since this is the middle one of three peaks – briefly uphill and enjoy the vie, down and continue to the Fleischbank (careful!), then the incline winds down to the Steilegg Jagdhütte (hunting lodge), now it's not far to the royal hunting lodge (950m (3,117 ft.) difference in altitude), long day trip but especially worth-while in the spring when all flowers bloom or in fall when the view is spectacular………


TORSCHARTE (1,815m (5,955 ft.)) - TORKOPF  (2,014m (6,608 ft.))   

We take the hiking bus to Hinterriss, past the information center, we park at the Rohntal parking lot (928m (3,045 ft.)), the in the direction of ENG, into the Tor valley, past the Tor valley alm up to the Hochleger, a paradise for marmots but also snakes, to the Torscharte. If this wasn't enough for you, you can go right up to the Torkopf: From mid July until mid August you can find Edelweiss here, and a great view. Back down to the wind valley and down the other side to the Rohn valley, first to the Rohn valley alm (1,262m (4,140 ft.)), after a brief rest out of the Rohn valley to the parking lot: fine trip requiring endurance, day trip. Difference in altitude Wind valley 887m (2,910 ft.); Torkopf 1,086m (3,563 ft.) ………


VORDERSKOPF  (1,858m (6,096 ft.))  - A MOUNTAIN WITH A WONDERFUL VIEW

We take the bus to Hinterriss, direction Vorderbachau/Vereinsalm, if possible the bus takes the logging road past the hunting lodge up to the anticline, then 1.5 hrs on foot – ideal sunrise and sunset tour, the peak is larger than 3 football fields, on a clear day you can see the television tower in Munich, half-day tour - or as described above…..

TÖLZER HÜTTE (lodge) (1,835m (6,020 ft.))

Our hiking bus takes us to the Oswaldhütte, where we start on foot or Thomas – the landlord of the Oswaldhütte takes us up the Mosenweg; from the Mosenalm walk approx.1,500m (.9 mi.) to the right below the Schafreiters to the Tölzerhütte, then we'll go down to the Leckbach, a nice day trip, difference in altitude 932m (3,058 ft.) …


SCHAFREITER (2,101m (6,893 ft.))


Tour as above, but go up from the Mosenalm weiter hinauf bei der Abzweigung to the left to the Schafreiter, you go first through mountain pines, then you reach a sward, good for walking, to the peak; going downhill requires sure-footedness, even before you reach the Tölzerhütte it's stony and rough going - as soon as you see the lodge you're there; downhill from the Tölzerhütte as above, difference in altitude 1,199m (3,934 ft.) – demanding day trip……


GRASKÖPFL (1,726m (5,663 ft.))  -  GRAMMESBERG (1,741m (5,712 ft.))

About 500m/yards after the Oswaldhütte (847m (2,779 ft.)) (direction Vorderriss) you walk up a beautiful old riding incline on the right to the Wiesbauernhochleger, then keep left to the Grasköpfl and continue to the Grammesberg, or back and take a right at the Hochleger to the Moosenalm, relaxing, beautiful tour that you can extend or shorten, just as you like - here you are alone - pure romance….
